EMS for Grid-Scale BESS TendersThe plant controller a tendered battery is paid against.

An energy management system (EMS) for tendered battery storage: dispatch schedules, grid-code response and monthly availability evidence. Made in India, supplied to the EPC or delivered as a complete BESS.

A grid-scale battery storage plant at a substation: rows of battery containers and PCS of any make, a transformer bay and transmission tower, and the Ingro EMS controller cabinet with an operator at the Ingro console.
The short answer

Ingro EMS-GS is a made-in-India energy management system for grid-scale battery energy storage (BESS) tenders. It is the plant controller at the substation: it executes the dispatch schedule, delivers the frequency and reactive-power response the connection agreement requires, and keeps the availability, efficiency, cycle and battery-health records a tendered BESS is paid and penalised against. Ingro supplies it to the EPC contractor, developer or integrator delivering the tender — or delivers the complete BESS turnkey, with the EMS inside.

A tendered BESS is not judged on what it could do, but on what it can prove it did: every dispatch, every availability hour, every cycle. The EMS is the component that does the work and keeps the evidence.

Six obligations, one plant

What Does a Grid-Scale BESS Tender Ask of the EMS?

Each obligation lives in a specific part of the plant. Scroll through them and the drawing shows where.

What a grid-scale BESS tender asks of the EMS, located on the plantThe grid operator sends a dispatch schedule to Ingro EMS at the substation (1). The EMS sends setpoints to the PCS, which charges and discharges the battery. Frequency and voltage at the grid connection feed the EMS for grid-code response (2). The EMS sends real-time telemetry back to the grid operator (3). The battery management system reports state of health and cycles to the EMS (4). Metered data from the grid connection becomes the monthly availability report for the operator, lender and insurer (5). The EMS software is made in India (6).Grid operatorMonthly reportIngro EMSMADE IN INDIA6PCSBMSBattery + BMSGrid connection1ScheduleSetpoints2f · V3Telemetry4SoH · cycles5Metered data5Availability
Every month runs the same loop: schedule, dispatch, grid-code response, metered evidence, availability report — and the report is what the plant is paid against.
  1. 1
    Dispatch

Can it run the schedule exactly as issued?

A tendered BESS charges and discharges against schedules issued by the grid operator, often revised within the day. The EMS executes each schedule at the point of connection, holds the plant to its ramp limits, and records every deviation with its cause in the operator's own format and timing.

  2. 2
    Grid-code response

Does it respond to the grid, not just the timetable?

Frequency response, reactive power and voltage support are written into the connection agreement, and the controller delivers them at the substation. Control response is specified per project — sub-millisecond, 4 ms, 10 ms or 20 ms — to match the grid code, the connection agreement or the client's own requirement.

  3. 3
    Telemetry

Will it talk to the grid operator's systems?

Real-time telemetry and control signals reach the grid operator's systems over whichever protocol the connection specifies, alongside REST and WebSocket interfaces for the owner's own portfolio systems.

  4. 4
    Battery health

Will the lender's case and the warranty hold up?

State-of-health, cycle and temperature records are maintained against the battery supplier's warranty terms, and the degradation trend is reported so capacity augmentation is planned rather than discovered.

  5. 5
    Availability

Can you prove the plant was available?

Tendered storage is typically paid against contracted availability and round-trip efficiency, and penalised for shortfalls. Availability, efficiency and cycle counts are recorded continuously from metered data and evidenced monthly against the contracted values, each figure carrying its basis.

  6. 6
    Indigenous software

Is the EMS software made in India?

Battery storage supported under India's viability gap funding requires the EMS application software to be developed indigenously. Ingro EMS is designed, written and maintained in India by Ingro Energy's own team. How compliance is evidenced is set by each tender document — send it, and we respond against its clauses.

On Site, in the Cloud, or Both

On a tendered plant, control usually runs on site at the substation, with cloud reporting and fleet visibility layered on top.

Control response
Control response is specified per project — sub-millisecond, 4 ms, 10 ms or 20 ms — to match the grid code, the connection agreement or the client's own requirement.
Field and grid interfaces
Modbus TCP, Modbus RTU over RS485, SunSpec, IEC 61850, DNP3 and OPC-UA, plus dry contacts, digital I/O and aggregator gateways.
Owner's own systems
REST and WebSocket interfaces for a customer's own SCADA, corporate dashboard or portfolio system.
Record
Every energy figure carries its basis — metered, derived or modelled — and the proportion of the period covered by data.

What it shows a bidder

  • A legacy, vendor-locked EMS and SCADA platform was taken over and run on the plant's existing batteries and PCS.
  • Cell-level voltage, temperature and state-of-charge data is read from the battery's own BMS protocol.
  • Monthly EMS reviews carry cell-level health, degradation tracking and capacity trends.
From bid to handover

From Tender Document to Plant in Service

Five stages, each ending in something you can put in the bid file or hand to the lender.

  1. Bid · Before you submit1

    Tender document review

We read the technical specification and respond clause by clause on the EMS and SCADA scope, so the bid states what the plant will actually deliver.

Common questions

Grid-Scale BESS Tender EMS, Answered

8 questions

Use an EMS that is made in India, works with the battery and PCS make you bid, executes the grid operator's dispatch schedules, delivers grid-code response at the control speed the connection requires, and evidences availability monthly. Ingro EMS-GS is built for exactly that. Ingro is the EMS and SCADA technology partner on India's first grid-scale BESS — the 10 MW / 10 MWh plant at Tata Power-DDL's Rohini substation in Delhi.

Yes. Ingro supplies the EMS controller, operator console, SCADA interface and reporting suite to the EPC contractor, developer or integrator, integrated with the battery and PCS make the bid specified — or delivers the complete BESS turnkey if one accountable party is preferred.

Control response is specified per project — sub-millisecond, 4 ms, 10 ms or 20 ms — to match the grid code, the connection agreement or the client's own requirement.

Yes. Ingro is the EMS and SCADA technology partner on India's first grid-scale BESS — the 10 MW / 10 MWh plant at Tata Power-DDL's Rohini substation in Delhi. Ingro took over the EMS and SCADA from a legacy vendor-locked platform, coordinating 124 PCS units and cell-level data across 37 battery racks.

Battery storage supported under India's viability gap funding requires the EMS application software to be developed indigenously, and individual tenders can set further local-content conditions. Ingro EMS is designed, written and maintained in India. Always confirm the exact clause in the tender document you are bidding.

Yes. It is manufacturer-independent and register-map driven, integrating over Modbus TCP, Modbus RTU over RS485, SunSpec, IEC 61850, DNP3 and OPC-UA, plus dry contacts, digital I/O and aggregator gateways. A model not previously encountered is added as configuration rather than as new hardware.

Ingro EMS is deployed on site (offline), in the cloud, or as a hybrid of the two. In on-site and hybrid deployments, site control continues with no internet connection. On a tendered plant, control usually runs on site at the substation, with cloud reporting and fleet visibility layered on top as a hybrid.

Yes. The same platform runs behind-the-meter storage for commercial and industrial sites — peak shaving, time-of-day shifting, backup, solar self-consumption and diesel offset — and Ingro delivers those systems end to end as well.
