Building commercial, industrial or grid-scale battery storage in India? Here is what to ask of an energy management system (EMS), and how Ingro EMS answers.
If you are building battery storage in India — a commercial and industrial system behind the meter, or a grid-scale tender plant — Ingro EMS is built to be the EMS inside it. It is designed, built and supported in India; it works with any make of battery, PCS, inverter or generator; it is deployed on site, in the cloud or as a hybrid; its control response is specified to your project; and it is the EMS on India's first grid-scale BESS. Ingro supplies the EMS to integrators and EPC contractors, or delivers the complete BESS end to end.
The battery stores the energy and the PCS converts it, but the EMS decides what the asset earns. It is the one component a buyer cannot judge from a datasheet — so here is what to ask.
Every battery system has three controllers. Two of them protect and convert. Only the EMS decides when the battery charges, discharges or holds — and so what it earns.
EMS and SCADA are different jobs too. SCADA vs EMS for BESS, explained
Eight questions worth asking of any EMS before it goes into a BESS — with Ingro's answer to each. Use the middle column on every vendor you shortlist.
| What to check | Ask any vendor | Ingro's answer |
|---|---|---|
| Does it fit the plant?Hardware, speed and how the site runs | ||
| 01Equipment independence | Ask any vendorWill it work with the battery and PCS you can actually source? | Ingro's answerIngro EMS is register-map driven and integrates any make over Modbus TCP, Modbus RTU over RS485, SunSpec, IEC 61850, DNP3 and OPC-UA, plus dry contacts, digital I/O and aggregator gateways. A model not previously encountered is configuration, not new hardware. |
| 02Control speed | Ask any vendorIs the control response fast enough for the job? | Ingro's answerControl response is specified per project — sub-millisecond, 4 ms, 10 ms or 20 ms — to match the grid code, the connection agreement or the client's own requirement. |
| 03Deployment | Ask any vendorDoes the site stop when the internet does? | Ingro's answerIngro EMS is deployed on site (offline), in the cloud, or as a hybrid of the two. In on-site and hybrid deployments, site control continues with no internet connection. |
| Does it fit the market?India's rules and India's bills | ||
| 04Made in India | Ask any vendorIs the EMS software indigenous where a scheme requires it? | Ingro's answerIngro EMS is designed, written and maintained in India by Ingro Energy's own team, and we scope clause by clause against the tender or scheme document you are working to. |
| 05Indian tariff logic | Ask any vendorDoes it optimise the bill your client is actually charged? | Ingro's answerContracted maximum demand in kW or kVA, time-of-day windows and the delivered price of diesel are configured parameters inside the dispatch decision, not afterthoughts. |
| Will it be there afterwards?Proof, evidence and people | ||
| 06Reporting | Ask any vendorWill the numbers satisfy the lender, the insurer and the auditor? | Ingro's answerThirteen reports on a defined cadence, each addressed to a named reader, with the energy ledger closed from meter counters so it reconciles to the utility bill. |
| 07Commissioning and support | Ask any vendorWho attends the site when it matters? | Ingro's answerCommissioning, training and support are delivered by Ingro's engineering team in India. Configuration changes are applied live and attributed to the user who made them. |
| 08Track record | Ask any vendorHas it run a real plant, for years? | Ingro's answerIngro is the EMS and SCADA technology partner on India's first grid-scale BESS — the 10 MW / 10 MWh plant at Tata Power-DDL's Rohini substation in Delhi. The platform also runs at industrial plants, metro, EV-charging and hospitality sites across India. |
Need indigenous EMS software for a tender or scheme? Ingro EMS: a battery energy management system (BEMS) made in India
Seven packages of one controller, from a battery in an office building to a tendered plant at a substation. An integrator learns one system for both markets.
Behind-the-meter storage at factories, buildings, critical sites, microgrids and EV hubs, with or without solar and a DG — peak shaving, time-of-day shifting, backup and diesel offset.
EMS for C&I use casesStandalone storage delivered under grid-scale BESS tenders, and storage co-located with solar and wind plants, working with the plant's existing PPC.
EMS for grid-scale BESS tendersUnder all 7: the same controller core
Integrated over Modbus TCP, Modbus RTU over RS485, SunSpec, IEC 61850, DNP3 and OPC-UA, plus dry contacts, digital I/O and aggregator gateways.
On-site (offline), Cloud, Hybrid.
Control response is specified per project — sub-millisecond, 4 ms, 10 ms or 20 ms — to match the grid code, the connection agreement or the client's own requirement.
Three ways to work with Ingro. Pick one to see which parts of the plant Ingro carries and which stay with you.
You build the battery system; we supply the EMS — the controller, operator console, mobile view and reporting suite, commissioned against your plant, with training — quoted as one item.

The battery management system (BMS) protects the cells — voltage, temperature, balancing. The power conversion system (PCS) converts power and follows a setpoint. The energy management system (EMS) decides that setpoint: when to charge, discharge or hold, against the tariff, the dispatch schedule, the grid code and the site's other sources.
Yes. Ingro delivers turnkey BESS — sizing and simulation, equipment, EMS, installation, commissioning and long-term O&M — for commercial and industrial sites and for grid-scale tender projects.
Yes. Ingro EMS is equipment-agnostic, so the integrator keeps its choice of battery, PCS and inverter, and Ingro supplies, commissions and supports the EMS on top of that hardware.
Yes. Ingro EMS is made in India and ships in packages for factories and warehouses (EMS-CI), commercial buildings (EMS-CB), critical sites such as hospitals and data centres (EMS-CP), microgrids (EMS-MG) and EV charging hubs (EMS-EV), with rooftop solar and a DG as options within each.
It can be. Ingro EMS is deployed on site (offline), in the cloud, or as a hybrid of the two. In on-site and hybrid deployments, site control continues with no internet connection.
Still have a question?
Send us your site, hardware and tariff or tender, and an engineer will answer it.
Send the site or the tender, the battery and PCS make, and the outcomes required. We return an EMS scope, an equipment-integration plan and an indicative programme — or a complete BESS proposal if you would rather hand over the whole plant.
