Ingro Energy and ISGF Sign MOU for a Unified V2G Operating System
India has proven both V2G modalities in the field: battery swapping (Sheru and BSES Rajdhani, 2023) and AC charging (ISGF-led demo, 2026). Under an MOU with ISGF, Ingro Energy will unify them in one V2G operating system for discoms and OEMs.
India has run two Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) firsts. Now they run on one operating system. Under a memorandum of understanding with the India Smart Grid Forum (ISGF), Ingro Energy will build a unified V2G operating system for discoms and OEMs, integrating learnings from the pilots of both V2G modalities run by ISGF and Sheru.
The pilots showed V2G works. The bottleneck to scale has been an operating system that institutions can adopt.
Two modalities, two India firsts
- 2023, battery-swapping modality: Sheru and BSES Rajdhani Power Limited set up India's first V2G battery-swapping station. Swap stations always hold spare batteries for 2W and 3W riders, and that idle bank can charge on cheap, clean power and support the grid at peak.
- 2026, charging modality: ISGF led South Asia's first AC V2G demonstration with BSES Yamuna Power Limited, Tata Power-DDL and ANERT (Agency for New and Renewable Energy Research and Technology). Parked cars plugged into two-way chargers gave power back to the grid.
Charging and swapping have both been proven in the field. In the charging modality, parked cars charge when power is plentiful and give back at the evening peak within limits the driver sets, for example keeping at least 60% charge and being full by 8 AM. Ingro owns and develops the V2G OS for this modality under the MOU with ISGF. In the swapping modality, Ingro owns the swapping-to-grid modality via Sheru.
One brain for every EV battery
The Ingro Energy OS sits between the grid and both modalities, exchanging battery data and smart-control signals with chargers and swap stations, and peak, price and frequency signals with the discom. It is designed to:
- See every battery: charge level, health and availability across cars and swap stations
- Predict and decide: when to charge, when to give back, and how much
- Put mobility first: driver limits are honoured and swap riders always find a charged pack
- Aggregate into MW: thousands of small batteries act as one dispatchable grid resource
Expected outcomes
- Peak support for discoms
- Deployment speed for EV OEMs and EV infrastructure operators
The wider benefits include more solar absorbed and less curtailed, income for EV and battery owners, compatibility with standalone storage at distribution-transformer scale, and grid-ready EV fleets at India scale. Ingro is inviting discoms, OEMs, fleets, charge-point operators and battery-swapping operators exploring V2G in India to engage.
