Battery Swapping to GridSpare packs in swap stations support the grid at peak

A swap station always holds more charged packs than riders need at any moment. That idle bank can charge on cheap, clean power and support the grid at peak, without any rider waiting for a pack.

The short answer

Battery swapping to grid uses the spare packs held in a swap station as a small grid battery. Packs charge when power is cheap and plentiful and discharge in short peak windows, while the station's software makes sure every rider who arrives still finds a charged pack.

How it works

Battery swapping to grid, step by step

  1. 1

    Racks hold spares

A station always keeps more packs than riders need at any one moment.

  2. 2

    Forecast swaps

Demand for the next hours is forecast from the station's own history.

  3. 3

    Discharge in the peak

Packs that will not be needed discharge to the grid for a short peak window.

  4. 4

    Back to full

Packs recharge in time for the next rush, so no rider waits.

Ingro's role

What the Ingro OS does

The same hardware-agnostic layer that runs Ingro EMS sits between the grid and every battery.

  • See every pack

Charge, health and slot of every pack across every station.

  • Riders first

Swap demand is forecast so a charged pack is always waiting.

  • Grid on top

Only the packs that are spare are offered to the DISCOM.

  • Aggregate stations

Many stations act as one resource for peak and frequency support.

Track record

In India so far

  1. Before Ingro

A swapping network in Delhi NCR

Ingro's founders built a battery-swapping network across Delhi NCR, and built the world's first bidirectional battery-swapping kiosk.

  2. 2023

    India's first V2G battery-swapping station

Sheru and BSES Rajdhani Power set up India's first V2G battery-swapping station: spare packs for 2W and 3W riders charge on cheap, clean power and support the grid at peak.

  3. Sep 2026

Ingro and ISGF sign an MOU for one V2G operating system

Ingro will build a unified V2G operating system for DISCOMs and OEMs, bringing together what the charging and swapping pilots learned.

Who it's for

What each side gets

  • Swap operators

Income from packs that would otherwise sit idle in the rack.

  • 2W and 3W fleets

No change to riding or swapping: a charged pack is always there.

  • DISCOMs

Peak support from stations already spread across the city.
