Vehicle-to-Home (V2H)The car in the driveway doubles as the home battery

An EV holds several times the energy of a home inverter battery. With a bidirectional charger and a home EMS, it can run the house through a power cut or the evening peak, then refill from rooftop solar.

The short answer

Vehicle-to-home (V2H) uses an electric vehicle's battery to power a house through a bidirectional charger. The home EMS decides when the car powers the home, for a power cut or the evening peak, and when it recharges, ideally from rooftop solar, always keeping the range the owner needs for the next trip.

How it works

Vehicle-to-home (V2H), step by step

  1. 1

    Solar charges the car

Rooftop solar that would be exported cheaply charges the car through the day.

  2. 2

    The car runs the evening

After sunset the car carries the home's load instead of grid power at the peak rate.

  3. 3

    Backup in a power cut

When the grid drops, the house switches to the car: lights, fridge and Wi-Fi stay on.

  4. 4

    Range is protected

The EMS stops at the range the owner set, so the car is ready for tomorrow.

Ingro's role

What the Ingro OS does

The same hardware-agnostic layer that runs Ingro EMS sits between the grid and every battery.

  • Solar first

Puts rooftop solar into the car before exporting it.

  • Reserve held

Keeps a reserve for outages without giving up the evening savings.

  • Range kept

Never discharges below the range the owner needs.

  • Battery cared for

Shallow, gentle cycles so the car's battery lasts.

Track record

In India so far

  1. Today

India already runs on home backup

Millions of homes already have an inverter and battery. As PM Surya Ghar puts solar on 10 million roofs, the question shifts from adding storage to making it smarter, and the EV is the biggest battery a home will own.

Who it's for

What each side gets

  • Homes with solar and an EV

Evening power from their own solar, and backup without an extra battery bank.

  • Inverter and charger makers

A home EMS that coordinates solar, inverter, battery and the car.

  • Installers

One system to set up instead of separate backup and charging.

FAQ

Vehicle-to-home (V2H): common questions

3 questions

It depends on the car and the load, but a typical EV battery holds several times the energy of a home inverter battery, enough to carry essential loads for a long outage while keeping range for the next trip.

V2H powers your own home and stays behind your meter. V2G exports to the grid, usually through an aggregator, and is paid for it.

Yes. V2H needs a bidirectional charger and a car that supports exporting power, plus a changeover so the house is isolated from the grid during a cut.
