Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G)Parked EVs give power back at the evening peak

EVs spend most of the day parked. On two-way chargers they can charge when power is plentiful and give some back at the evening peak, within limits the driver sets. Ingro is building the V2G operating system for India under an MOU with the India Smart Grid Forum.

The short answer

Vehicle-to-grid (V2G) lets an electric vehicle send power from its battery back to the grid through a bidirectional charger. Charged when power is cheap and plentiful, the car gives a share back at the evening peak, and the driver's limits, such as a minimum charge and a time to be full, always come first.

How it works

Vehicle-to-grid (V2G), step by step

  1. 1

    The driver sets limits

For example: never below 60% charge, and full again by 8 AM.

  2. 2

    Charge when power is plentiful

The car charges in the midday solar hours or overnight, when power is cheap.

  3. 3

    Give back at the peak

At the evening peak the charger exports what the driver's limits allow.

  4. 4

    Refill and get paid

The car is full again by departure, and the owner or fleet is paid for the energy provided.

Ingro's role

What the Ingro OS does

The same hardware-agnostic layer that runs Ingro EMS sits between the grid and every battery.

  • See every battery

Charge level, health and availability across every connected car.

  • Predict and decide

When to charge, when to give back, and how much.

  • Mobility first

Driver limits are honoured on every session; the grid gets only what is spare.

  • Aggregate into MW

Thousands of small batteries act as one dispatchable resource for the DISCOM.

Track record

In India so far

  1. 2026

South Asia's first AC V2G demonstration

ISGF led the demonstration with BSES Yamuna Power, Tata Power-DDL and ANERT. Parked cars plugged into two-way chargers gave power back to the grid.

  2. Sep 2026

Ingro and ISGF sign an MOU for one V2G operating system

Ingro will build a unified V2G operating system for DISCOMs and OEMs, bringing together what the charging and swapping pilots learned.

Who it's for

What each side gets

  • DISCOMs

Peak support from cars already parked on their network.

  • EV OEMs and fleets

Faster V2G rollout on one operating system, and income for idle vehicles.

  • Charge-point operators

A grid-services revenue line on top of charging.

FAQ

Vehicle-to-grid (V2G): common questions

4 questions

Every cycle adds some wear, which is why the operating system tracks battery health and limits how deep and how often a car gives back. Drivers set the floor; the system works above it.

Yes. ISGF led South Asia's first AC V2G demonstration in 2026 with BSES Yamuna Power, Tata Power-DDL and ANERT, and Sheru and BSES Rajdhani ran India's first V2G battery-swapping station in 2023.

Yes. The time you need the car and the charge you need by then are hard limits. V2G only uses what is spare before that.

Under an MOU with the India Smart Grid Forum, Ingro develops the V2G operating system for the charging modality: one system that sits between the DISCOM and the chargers.
